La tradizione tessile vede come protagonisti i cenciaioli un lavoro che ha segnato la storia di Prato e non solo.
Essere cenciaioli significa essere una figura lavorativa in grado di riconoscere i tessuti con un solo tocco e dividere quest’ultimi per colori e consistenza e pesantezza.
È dalle sue origini storiche a partire circa dal XII secolo d.c. che prende forma questo mestiere ma è solo nel secondo dopoguerra, a causa delle poche risorse e delle scarse materie prime si cerca di riutilizzare i materiali usati o i cosiddetti “cenci” per dare vita a nuove forme e usi.
Essere cenciaioli inoltre rappresenta un’arte di cui andarne fieri come rinascita di un periodo economico pesante che, nonostante rappresenti un mestiere faticoso, riesce a regalare ancora oggi grandi soddisfazioni.

Being ”cenciaioli”, means being a working figure able to recognize fabrics with a single touch and divide the latter by colors and texture and heaviness.
It is from its historical origins starting from about the twelfth century A.D. that this craft takes shape but it is only in the postwar period, because of the few resources and the scarce raw materials we try to reuse the materials used or the so-called “cenci” to give life to new forms and uses.
Being ”cenciaioli”, also represents an art to be proud of as a rebirth of a heavy economic period that, despite representing a tiring profession, still manages to give great satisfaction today.
